WIND POWER
In the fall of 2008 the Centre added a wind generator on the premises
The wind generator is doing fine now after three repair jobs the first 12 months caused by gusty NW Ontario winds. Strong wind gusts made the blades hit the metal bar and pieces of blade were shattered over the field. Raum helped us out by sending us new blades which we shortened a couple of inches, It looks like the gusty wind problems have been solved now.
October
2008 A 100 - feet wind generator went up at the Nolalu Eco Centre. A 1.3 kw
generator made in Canada by Raum Energ . Frank with orange helmet - Frank's
Alternate Energy - local distributor of these generators, general
manager for the day was leading the wind workshop with some assistants.
The
four sets of guy wires, the gin pole, the truck on one end and a Bob Cat on
the other were needed to pull the tower up. And lots of critical eyes were
following the action from a distance. .
Gin Pole
The
gin pole exist of 5 10-feet sections.
A gin pole is needed to start the lift of the tower off the ground. Here the
Gin pole itself is raised with some help of the Bob Cat.
Manpower
The anchors for the guy wires were put into the ground.
It depends on the soil how much power you need here. Quite some strength is
needed towards the end. Four anchors total.
Let
Frank do the shopping.
Frank was able to find refurbished tower sections for
us.
